Bucanero Jack, A Fish Unique In Every Way

The scientific name of Bucanero Jack is Elagatis bipinnulata. It is a species of the Carangidae family, which is of great importance to the fishing industry. This species has been heavily exploited in fisheries, with many of its populations reduced and even threatened in certain areas. Bucanero Jacks are found primarily in the waters of the western Atlantic Ocean, throughout the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico. It is also present in the tropical parts of the eastern Atlantic and the western Indian Ocean, ranging from South Africa to India.

It prefers to live in warm and shallow waters, usually found near coral reefs, around rocky bottoms and near sea-grass beds. It is capable of living in temperatures from 15°C to over 30°C, with an optimal temperature of around 25°C.
